Welcome WUDPAC Class of 2012

After much preparation, fulfilling class requirements in studio art, art history, and chemistry, and completing over a thousand hours of volunteering and interning as “pre-programmers,” ten aspiring individuals have recently begun their studies as the WUDPAC class of 2012. We would like to extend our warmest welcome to Erin Anderson, Tatiana Cole, Anne Getts, Sarah Gowen, Allison Holcomb, Ellen Moody, Carlos Moya, Steven O’Banion, Stephanie Oman, and Ellen Promise. In addition, Utsha Gurung, a visiting scholar from the Himalayan country of Bhutan, will accompany the class of 2012 during the first year of the program.

Strong and varied backgrounds in the class of 2012 will create a well-rounded and rich learning environment for each student. Members hold degrees ranging from Art History and French, to Chemistry and Biology. Many have written undergraduate honors theses and presented at annual conferences. Their résumés show great potential, listing pre-program conservation internships and work experiences in some of the world’s most prominent institutions, including the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA, and the Getty Museum, Los Angeles.

Three of the ten students have spent a considerable amount of their pre-program experience addressing the complicated needs of modern and contemporary works of art. Two students assisted with the conservation of national treasures, such as the preservation of Yellowstone National Park architectural drawings funded by a Save America’s Treasures grant, and the treatment of paintings, objects, and works on paper at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

These academic and work experiences will serve as a strong foundation to build upon. Indeed, the class of 2012 shows much promise, and the University of Delaware and Winterthur community look forward to seeing them through the next three years.
