Curator of Collections for North Museum, PA

Description:

Oversee and implement the management and care of the collections, work with other members of the staff to plan exhibits and use of the collections for education and research, and work closely with the collections committee of the board of directors with regard to collections management policy, accessioning, de-accessioning, or loans for research, and plan for the relocation of the collections to a new building within the next five years.

The curator is expected to develop close, ongoing relationships with local institutions of higher education, and to write grant proposals for collaborative research.

Reports To: Executive Director

Qualifications:

-Minimum of Master’s degree in museum studies or any field of natural history or archeology.

-Broad understanding, interest, and enthusiasm for topical science.

-Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills.

-Ability to develop and manage collaborative partnerships and contracts.

-Must have a creative, exploratory and boundary-free approach to education and its opportunities.

-Effective analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

-Oversee management and care of the Museum collections.

-Keep informed of new techniques and strategies for collections care and storage.

-Support the Museum’s strategic goal of enhancing its value to the community by developing relationships with local institutions of higher education and conducting cooperative research.

-Other tasks as assigned.

This is a permanent full time position.

All full-time staff at the Museum periodically become the ‘Manager On Duty’ and act as floor manager and point of contact during open hours.

Some evening and weekend work required. Some flexibility is within your control.
